Legal framework – professional module

About Course

The aim of the knowledge area ‘Legal framework of energy communities’ is to provide energy community managers with a solid understanding of the most relevant regulatory issues related to energy communities. This area covers various topics, starting from the existing regulation in EU law, where energy communities are regulated by Directives 2018/2001 and 2019/944, which establish two types: renewable energy communities and citizen energy communities. Taking into account the definition of both types, a distinction must be made between them and the requirements for each must be detailed. In a second part of this module, the advantages and disadvantages that the regulations offer in relation to these entities will be discussed. In this connection, reference will also be made to the existing provisions regarding legal barriers and the formulation of subsidies. Finally, the specific regulation of energy communities in Spain will be discussed.
